Worship
Worship is
at the heart of our life and ministry at Epiphany. Many persons,
in addition to the pastor, spend many hours in
prayerful preparation for it.
For
us, worship is celebration. It is not so much gathering to ask for
blessings
but to give thanks for the blessings we have already
been given!
We have blended worship here. That sounds like
we put a lot of ingredients
in a mixer and stir them up. Not exactly. Our worship
includes both the
traditional and contemporary in music, liturgy, and
other activities.
We love the popular praise songs but also the grand old
hymns of the church.
Power point slides are used in worship, along
with the traditional printed
bulletin. Worship provides time for quiet reflection
and also joyous sharing.
It is engaging, interactive, and inviting.
Worship, however, is not primarily about us.
Worship is about God. It is not
entertainment. The congregation is not an audience or
spectators. The pastor
is not the master of ceremonies nor the choir
performers. God is, in fact, the
audience! God is the focus. Every song, ever prayer,
every act of worship
is planned and carried out as a sacrifice of praise to
God.
As for music, Epiphany
has an outstanding music ministry. Our adult
choir, led by the wonderful Bev Sapp, provides an
anthem each Sunday
and a cantata at Easter and Christmas. Anne and Bob
Cole, along with many
others, often provide instrumental and vocal musical
offerings. “Comets,” our
children’s choir, also sings in our services. Our
“Praze Band,” uses guitars,
drums, and singers who lead the music at least once
each month.
Preaching is also
important for our worship. Our pastor, Bass Mitchell, works
hard to share engaging, relevant sermons that help
persons to think in new
ways and find some light for their paths. Hard copies
of the sermons are
available each week in the narthex and also on this web
site in the
“Members” section.
Our worship service is at 11 a.m. in the fall, winter
and spring. During the
summer it is at 10 a.m. Our plans are to start an
additional worship service
as soon as possible – day and time yet to be
determined.
We hope that you can join us one Sunday for worship. If
you have questions,
call or email us.
